Warning- Do Not Use Homemade Sex Toys During COVID-19 Pandemic

The online searches on “homemade sex toys” have been increased during this lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, doctors have warned people, not to try homemade sex toys for medical reasons.

The lockdown In various parts of the world has been increased to at least three weeks more. During this whole lockdown period, people seem sexually frustrated and interested to try new things which are seen by the record search results on “homemade sex toys”.

The online shops have reported a sky-high increase in sex toys sales this year, as compared to 2019. Although it’s only been a few months the sales record has already beaten last year’s sale. However, not everyone can afford to buy these toys so they come up with a homemade sex toys version.

An online merchandiser OnBuy looked into this trend and reported that there were at least 23,000 Google searches made on “homemade sex toys” from various cities and locations in the United Kingdom within the month of March. The highest number of searches were made from Leicester city which has made medical experts wonder that if that much population is making their own lube and vibrators during this lockdown, how many people are at risk of health complications.

A research team has tried to find answers to what people could be using during this coronavirus lockdown period to please themselves.

The list names mobile phones on top where people can download certain apps that can control vibrations. It also includes electrical toothbrushes and other appliances. Some reports also suggest using vegetables i.e. cucumbers and other objects that could be used for the same purpose.

The medical community has warned people on using all these homemade sex toys for possible health complications. Dr. Shree Datta is a consultant gynecologist who has explained the potential risks from using these common objects as sex toys. She also told that these risks are higher for women.

In an interview, she said that she has gone through research about people making sex toys at home to please themselves during the coronavirus lockdown. They are using objects like cucumbers, electrical toothbrushes, etc. Although it is not new to use these things for sexual pleasure no doctor recommends using them.

These objects are not safe and might put the user to a risk of infection. This risk is even higher for women as these homemade sex toys can damage vaginal tissues or parts of them might remain inside.

She also shared that in some cases, women need emergency medical help to remove the objects inserted in the vagina to sexually please them. Most of the times it causes an infection and they probably don’t know about these health complications before using these objects.

This is not the first time that doctors have warned people about the dangers of using unusual objects as sex toys. Earlier, many of them talked about how men use toothpaste as a lubricant for sex or during masturbation.

Probably they don’t know that toothpaste is not safe for this purpose. It has bleaching ingredients, peppermint and essential that could cause a rash or damage to the penile skin. It might cause a simple burn as well as a blister, both of which are a huge problem as penile skin s highly sensitive. So using toothpaste around genitals is not a good idea.

Toothpaste and other products like these are not meant to be used for self-pleasuring activities in men and women. Using it in or around the vagina can disturb the natural balance of bacteria leading to bacterial vaginosis and other infections. It can also disrupt the inner lining and skin of the vagina which is highly delicate.

Hence no doctor recommends using any object on or around genitals. There are certain products in markets i.e. silicone or water-based lubricants and vibrators which are safe for this purpose. Even if someone wants to use a sex toy, there are safer products that could be used. So doctors recommend everyone to invest in safe sex toys and do not use homemade sex toys during this coronavirus lockdown.
