Will There Ever Be a ‘Normal World’ Again?

At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the health agencies were not sure about how long the health crisis would last. The vast majority, on the other hand, assumed as soon as businesses will resume after the end of the first lockdown, all people will be back to the normal world and life will be just the way it was prior to the pandemic.

However, since the past few months, experts have been raising the question about the possibility of returning to the way of life before the start of this year. While all are hopeful that the crisis will come to an end, the timeframe has not been estimated.

According to the World Health Organization, the pandemic can several more months to even another year to slow down, which is only happen if a vaccine is launched in the market and distributed effectively throughout the world.

On the other hand, the leading infectious disease expert and member of the White House Task Force, Dr. Anthony Fauci emphasizes that while the crisis can be controlled, SARS-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes the coronavirus infection, may never be eradicated.

Research conducted on the infection in the past six months has established that the virus is highly contagious and can spread through multiple routes.

All health agencies, including the WHO, now also recognize the possibility of airborne transmission of the virus, especially in indoor public spaces where practicing social distance is extremely difficult.

Regardless of all the challenges that have come with the pandemic, many countries, including the US, which is currently the country with the highest number of coronavirus infections, is reopening.

With the reopening of all kinds of businesses including restaurants, retail, entertainment centers, bars, and clubs, people are still encouraged to follow the previously suggested measures in order to effectively prevent the coronavirus infection.

In many of the places including grocery stores, wearing a mask, and maintaining distance are required to minimize the risk of transmission.

The change in everyday life and the world is obvious. People have indeed returned to work and schools just like they did before the coronavirus health crisis started but there have been multiple alterations in accordance with the needs of controlling the pandemic.

This has led to many experts stating that this may ultimately become the ‘new normal’, which means that the vast majority may have to continue wearing a mask in public and maintaining distance in public spaces for many years.

So, there is a possibility that the normal world and life which existed before the pandemic may never come back as many businesses and big corporations are even switching their plans and permanently creating new ways to work in order to tackle any similar situations in the future.

For instance, Starbucks had announced that it will be closing many of its cafes and building more innovative takeaway-based stores that can allow people to keep visiting even during a public health emergency.

It should also be noted that while the idea of change may not appeal to some people, the predictions do not say that the new normal would not be as good as the old one in any way.
