The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is now the worst health crisis in the world. There are now more than two million confirmed cases and an increasing death toll reported from different countries. Regardless of the multiple efforts, the infection is spreading further day by day.
Though a number of countries have observed a decrease in the number of cases and have stated that the infection may have reached its ‘peak’, it may be far from the truth. The end of the COVID-19 pandemic, at the moment, cannot exactly be predicted.
This is why the majority of the governments have either extended their nationwide lockdowns or allowed very few businesses to remain open during a limited time slot for the facility of their own people or for uplifting their downgrading economy.
However, positive reports from countries including China and Italy have given hope to health experts, health care workers, and people worldwide. The travel restrictions have been eased in many areas as well.
On these changes, the experts at the World Health Organization tend to have different views. In fact, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who is the chief of WHO, emphasized that the pandemic is far from being controlled on the past Wednesday.

In his statement, he clarifies the situation regarding COVID-19 pandemic in the words “Make no mistake: we have a long way to go. This virus will be with us for a long time,”
He also adds that “Most countries are still in the early stages of their epidemics. And some that were affected early in the pandemic are now starting to see a resurgence in cases.”
It is difficult to figure out the potential end of the pandemic when even the countries which were once able to control the infection for a small period of time saw more incoming cases right after.
The comments from the chief of WHO came right after the director of the U.S. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention expressed similar views.
The CDC has currently asked people to follow the guidelines strictly until there is an official announcement for control over the crisis and not guesses about its end. Additionally, it also emphasized the need for preparing for another wave of COVID-19 hitting the US.
According to the experts at CDC, the second wave in the US, or in any other country possibly be even worse and harder to control than the first one.
At the moment, the death toll of coronavirus is the highest in the US with nearly fifty thousand deaths and 840,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19. These figures are even higher than those from China and Italy.
The growing number of cases has overwhelmed the health care systems of nearly all the countries but especially the US. However, there is also increasing pressure on governments to let go of imposed limitations and restrictions on the businesses.
The closing of major businesses and complete lockdowns in the US are paving the way for an economic crash which means that there is likely to be a global economic crisis in the middle of the COVID-19 health crisis.
The pressure to ease restrictions due to their effects on businesses can be seen in the figures by evidence from the United Nation’s International Civil Aviation Organization which shows that the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic is leading to a 1.2 billion reduction in customers.
This can significantly affect airline revenues with a loss of hundreds and millions of dollars. With the devastating effects of the COVID-19, it is still important to remain hopeful and follow official guidelines. The more people follow and take the instructions seriously, the faster the crisis can be controlled.
