Earlier in the week, a nationally-known healthcare accrediting organization for meeting performance standards awarded three accreditations to Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center.
As per a medical center release, it earned the Joint Commission’s “Gold Seal of Approval” for home-care accreditation, hospital accreditation, and behavioural health care accreditation. The Gold Seal of Approval is for providing safe and effective patient care to veterans.
After receiving the award, Dr. Robin E. Jackson, Director of the Medical Center said, “Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is pleased to receive accreditation from The Joint Commission.”
Jackson further added, “Staff from across the medical center continue to work together to develop and implement approaches to improve care for the Veterans in our community. It’s yet another reason for our Veterans to Choose VA for their health care.”
As per stated in the release, an unannounced on-site survey was conducted by The Joint Commission inspectors on July 7, 2018. Compliance with hospital standards related to several areas, including an environment of care, emergency management, leadership, infection prevention and control, and medication management was evaluated by the team of Joint Commission during the review. Additionally, onsite observations and interviews were also conducted by the Surveyors.
In a statement, Mark G. Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Division of Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission said, “ Through the Joint Commission accreditation, hospitals are provided with the processes needed to improve in several areas right from the improvement of daily business operations to the enhancement of staff education.”
Pelletier further said, “In addition, our accreditation helps hospitals enhance their risk management and risk reduction strategies. We commend Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center for its efforts to become a quality improvement organization.”
