Russia Announces a Coronavirus Vaccine Will Be Ready Next Month

As the coronavirus pandemic crosses thirteen million confirmed worldwide, the World Health Organization announced that any chance of improvement is unlikely without a coronavirus vaccine, which can take several months to develop. However, a Russian coronavirus vaccine may just be available in a few weeks.

Till now, there are over fifteen trials testing different formulas around the world in order to develop and launch a vaccine for coronavirus in the market as soon as possible.

This is because the coronavirus crisis continues to worsen regardless of the many efforts to control the virus since the start of the year.

In comparison with six months ago, many countries have a higher number of cases diagnosed in twenty-hours even though most governments imposed a complete lockdown for at least three months.

Currently, fifty percent of the newly reported cases come from only twelve countries. Out of the fifty percent, nearly eighty percent of cases are from two countries only which are Brazil and the US.

The US has the highest number of cases among all other countries and is the worst-hit. The country also recorded groundbreaking increases in the past two weeks with over fifty-seven thousand new cases of coronavirus reported in a single day.

Regardless of the tremendous increases, the US government under President Donald Trump is reopening all states completely. In addition, the government also announced that multiple coronavirus vaccine trials will start in the country by the end of July.

President Donald Trump also confidently said in a recent statement that the country will have a vaccine for coronavirus launched in the market before the start of autumn even though medical professionals are not so sure.

A coronavirus vaccine that works successfully will not only help the US but also the rest of the world. Therefore, the start of many coronavirus vaccine trials is good news for most people and even the medical community despite uncertainties about the development time for a vaccine.

However, Russian scientists have now announced that they will launch a coronavirus vaccine even before the US. According to a new report from Moscow, a Russian coronavirus vaccine may be available in the very next month of August.

The report came after the announcement of the completion of trials of a vaccine formula developed by the Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology and supervised by scientists at Sechenov University in Russia.

Elena Smolyarchuk, who is the head and chief researcher at Sechenov University Center for Clinical Research on Medications confirmed that the human trials for the vaccine have been completed and proven to be effective.

Furthermore, Alexander Gintsburg, the director of Gamalei Center further added that the virus will likely start circulating by mid-August. By September, private companies may also be able to produce the vaccine on a massive scale.

The Russain coronavirus vaccine, if launched and used next month, will be the first vaccine to be produced on a mass scale without completing three phases of clinical trials.

According to the WHO’s draft landscape of coronavirus vaccines, the Russain coronavirus vaccine is in Phase I trials. The protocol from the organization states three phases of the trial are fundamental in determining the safety of a vaccine.

The last phase of the trial or Phase III usually consists of the largest number of participants. Results from Phase III determine whether a vaccine is safe or not.
